Checkatrade cost:
per month and
per won job.

Checkatrade says basic plans start from around £30 + VAT a month; plans that send leads are priced by trade and postcode, from £59 + VAT, on a 12-month term. Members report paying £80 to £500 a month. Divide a year’s bill by jobs won to see what it costs you.

Disclosure: we run a competing model: exclusive referrals for trades, one company per area, paid per referral. So every price below links to where it was published, and the maths is yours to change.

What Checkatrade costs, October 2026

Checkatrade publishes a starting price, not a price list: the figure for a plan that sends leads appears once you enter your trade and postcode. Its pricing page refused our fetch, so that row cites a third party’s reading of it, dated.

Price is only half of it. A Checkatrade member posting on r/ukelectricians described more firms joining their area, falling lead quality, and an enquiry radius members can no longer set. One account, not a survey, but it is why the number to watch is cost per won job, not cost per month.

What a year costs

Memberships run for 12 months, so the real price is twelve bills. VAT at 20% added where the price is quoted ex VAT; if you are VAT registered you reclaim it.

Your cost per won job

It opens on an example you should change: the lowest published lead plan (£59 + VAT), 8 enquiries a month, and 1 in 10 won. The 8 is an assumption, not a Checkatrade figure. The 1 in 10 is the low end of the 1-in-5 to 1-in-10 rate Local Adder reports for shared platforms. Put in your own bill and your own results.

So is Checkatrade worth it?

When your cost per won job is well under what a job earns you, yes. New trades building reviews, and firms with spare capacity who ring back within minutes, are the ones the shared model suits. The full verdict, with the trade reviews behind it, is in is Checkatrade worth it for tradespeople.

If the sums do not work, swapping one directory for another rarely fixes it: compare the options in Checkatrade alternatives for tradespeople and the per-platform figures in lead prices in 2026.

Our model is different: no retainer and no lock-in. You pay per referral, each one goes to one company in the area, and it is checked against The Referral Standard before it is sent: fail a check, not billed. See pay per lead for UK trades and exclusive trade leads, one company per area.
